When I was invited to discover Laboratorio Paravicini tableware alongside its founder Constanza Paravicini at Pia Rubio store in Madrid, I got really excited. I’ve discovered this Italian brand through Instagram and I’ve been obsessed with everything they make since then. Meeting Constanza and her creations couldn’t happen on a better place. Pia Rubio is one of the most tasteful stores I’ve ever seen. I knew it was going to be a great morning, and my expectations were met.
Pia and her wonderful team welcomed us with a great breakfast, most of the cakes were made by Un bizcocho para Teo, and everything was just divine (from presentation to taste)
Meeting Constanza Paravicini and being able to talk with her about all the beautiful products they do was a truly an honor.
Laboratorio Paravicini’s journey started 20 years ago when Constanza wanted to create plates that could bring back to the everyday tables the atmosphere and warmth that was lost to the industrial porcelain production. She works in her workshop in Milan alongside with her daughters and 4 artisans.
The team is small and Constanza tells me her desire is to keep it that way. Laboratorio Paravicini produces its own thin, White ceramic biscuit, on which they hand paint or apply screen or digitally printed designs. The final glazing is then applied over the decorations by high fire, and the result is a ceramic plate suitable for everyday use, indelible, non-toxic and dishwasher safe. In some cases, the decoration is obtained by pressing a dry samp onto the biscuit when it is stil soft. The subsequent glazing will fill the excavated profile creating delicate chiaroscuro effects. Every finished plate is a small work of art.
Thank you Pia Rubio team, and also thank you Pepa Yuste (@myvintagecorner) for inviting me to this wonderful morning.
Below I’m sharing some other beautiful products that you can find at Pia Rubio (and on the website too!
